As you look for houses for sale, it’s easy to get overwhelmed by all of the options out there. To maintain your focus so you end up buying a house you love, here are some helpful tips to follow:
- Figure out your priorities—Before you go out and look at houses for sale, sit down and write down exactly what you want in your new home. After you do this, highlight the top three or five items that are your “must haves,” and keep this list handy when you go to showings.
- Compare, compare, compare—When you’ve looked at more than a few houses for sale, they all start to blend together. To help yourself remember what each home has to offer, take notes immediately after you go on a tour and take a few minutes to compare the home to others you’ve already seen.
- Picture yourself in the home—Even though a home you’re looking at is staged a certain way, that doesn’t mean you can’t use the space how you want. For example, if a bedroom upstairs is set up as a home office, don’t limit yourself into thinking the room can’t be used as a guest room, home gym, or nursery.
- Go back at different times of the day—If a home has caught your interest and you want to go back and look at it again, schedule the showing for a different time of the day. This way, you can note changes in light and the atmosphere of the neighbourhood at that time.
