Finding the right neighbourhood is almost as important as the home you buy. As your realtors, we want to help you find a community that matches your lifestyle and want you to consider the following tips as you hunt for your new home:
- What type of home do you want to buy? As realtors, we see many people who simply focus on the home they want to buy instead of realizing that the type of home they purchase will impact their community. Whether you’re interested in a townhome, single-family home, or cottage, remember that what type of home you live in goes hand-in-hand with the surrounding community.
- Do you have children? Whether you currently have kids or you plan on starting a family in the future, it’s important to think about what the school system is like in the area. Even if you don’t plan on having children, living in an area with a good school system can raise property values.
- What does your current neighbourhood lack? Take a minute and think about what you wish your current neighbourhood had. For example, do you wish that you had a grocery store right around the corner, or do you wish you lived closer to parks and hiking trails?
- What don’t you want in a neighbourhood? As important as it is to think about what you want in your community, as your realtors, we also want you to consider what you don’t want. For example, if you want to live in a quieter community, living near a university probably wouldn’t be a good way to go.
